An Oklahoma teen accidentally moved herself into a retirement community after trying to establish a fresh start in Arkansas.  A video showing her hilarious mistake recently went viral on TikTok with over 3.4 million views currently.

19-year-old Norma Madison Kohout — who goes by Madi Ann on TikTok — told the story to her followers, writing: “Me getting ready to move to an apartment out of state that I’ve never seen in person. And I realize I just moved myself into a retirement home.”

The video shows the girl doing a facepalm in front of a “Senior Citizens Apts.” sign after realizing her mistake.

It started when her mom, Gigi, found a “super spacious” apartment online that was “significantly cheaper” than her place in Oklahoma.

“I was able to lease a two-bedroom for only $350 a month,” Kohout said. She was so excited at the offer that she moved in several days without even visiting.

Kohout initially did find it strange that all of her neighbors were older than 65. However, the reality of her living situation didn’t sink in until she spotted that “retirement” sign — an entire week after moving in.

“Never in my entire life did I think I would be living in a retirement home!” Kohout told Newsweek. The only reason she was even allowed to move in was due to this particular residence’s “equal opportunity housing” status, which meant it didn’t discriminate based on age.

However, Kohout is actually thriving in her unique situation.

“I have become friends with a lot of my neighbors,” she said. She enjoys carousing with them, listening to their stories, and eating their delicious “home-cooked” meals.

In addition, Kohout says she can blast music anytime she wants because “some of them can’t hear,” she joked.

TikTok users weighed in on the situation.

“This could be a sitcom,” one person commented.

“Congrats you’re their IT person now,” joked another.

Others even shared similar stories of accidentally moving into retirement homes.

“My friend moved into one when she was 24,” one user said. “She still lives there 10 yrs later and she loves it. She plays bingo with everyone.”
